Legacy is a buzzword in music media. Ye, or Kanye West as he’s formally known, has a rather complicated one. From crashing award speeches, to calling out Presidents, to running for President, to dressing in KKK attire. Ye’s legacy has seen its fair share of wild moments. Yet another legacy moment was added to the canon with Ye’s 2-night concert series in Chicago, capping the artist's short U.S. tour and his first since 2021. The sold-out concerts hosted over 70000 and led millions more to contemplate their relationship to the artist.
As polarizing as his image may be, backlash from his antics has never stopped him from accomplishing historic feats in music and fashion.
Whether it be moving his clothing brand independent from adidas, or selling out stadiums after ranting on live streams.
The Proof is in the Yeezy.
With his concerts breaking Soldier Field Stadium’s single-night ticket sales record. His fashion brand recently partnered with JD Sports retail; Ye’s presence in popular media is hard to avoid. Personally, the only work of Ye’s that I engage with currently is the music, the older music at that. It will be fascinating to see Ye’s moves at this stage of his career. With over 20 years in the limelight and a reputation as one of the most creative minds in culture. It looks as though Ye is tying up loose ends as he continues his run as a legacy act. I’ll be observing, as Ye has been one of the most captivating case studies on those who carry the black genius title as they age.
