Cher walked so Google Photos could run
If you grew up desperately wanting Cher Horowitz’s computerized closet in Clueless, I have some fantastic news for you. The new Wardrobe feature on Google Photos creates an effortless digital closet. Just click generate, wait a few hours, and BOOM: all of the clothes in your photo library are now a digital closet.
I fear virtual-me is ugly AF
The first thing I tried in the Wardrobe was the virtual try-on. Google Photos creates an AI avatar that can wear your clothes. I was pleasantly surprised by the accuracy of the clothing generations (they generated a custom shirt my sister made me for Christmas, pretty much perfectly), but I have to admit, I was a bit disappointed when I saw my avatar. Maybe it's body dysmorphia, but would it have killed Google to give my avatar a bit of muscle and a tan? No, it wouldn’t have. Regardless, the algorithm for the avatars could still use a bit of work.
AI chats are so last season
Google Photos is currently winning the AI game, and brands should probably get their shit together if they want to keep up. We’re moving past AI for the sake of AI and into AI that actually does something. For brands, this feature is a sign to stop slapping AI customer service on your website and instead start thinking about how AI can create experiences people actually want to use. Because Google turned my camera roll into a personal stylist, and you still think your AI chatbot is going to cut it? As if.
